Five fellow Republicans in Princeton Township are endorsing Bill Spadea for Assembly in Legislative District 16. The seat became vacant when Peter Biondi of Hillsborough Township died two days after his
re-election in November.
Also seeking the seat are Donna Simon, a Readington Township Committee member, and John Saccenti of South Brunswick (Middlesex County), where he is a member of the Board of Health.
The county Republican chairmen of three of the four counties in District 16 are supporting Simon. They are Hunterdon County Chairman Henry Kuhl, Somerset County Chairman Al Gaburo and Mercer County Chairs Dave Fried and Maria Bua.
Once the Biondi seat is officially declared open when the state Legislature re-convenes on Jan. 12, the county chairmen will schedule a convention of party committee members from the towns in the four counties in the district.
The person chosen at the convention will serve until the November election.
Endorsing Spadea are Colin Vonvorys, Stuart Duncan and Nelson Obus, current Princeton Township Committee members, Tom Pyle, a former Princeton Township Republican Committee chairman, and Jodi Bouer, Princeton Township Republican.
“As a volunteer, he serves on our Zoning Board and the Board of Princeton Battlefield Society,” they said in a joint statement. “He is the master of ceremonies for the Spirit of Princeton and at our significant holiday events, including the Veterans Day and Memorial Day wreath-laying ceremonies honoring our fallen heroes. Bill is a positive, enthusiastic, dedicated leader.
“He used his time and talents on behalf of building our party and candidate development throughout the state. He’s a strong supporter of Governor Christie’s reform agenda and will be an effective advocate for the taxpayers in the 16th district,” they continued.
